What is VersoFold?＋
VersoFold is a local LaTeX writing workspace with source and visual editing, a PDF preview, a flexible AI agent harness, collaboration, and a shared reference library. Your manuscript remains an ordinary folder on your computer.
Can I use my own AI model?＋
Yes. Connect supported providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, or OpenRouter, run a local model through Ollama, or configure a compatible endpoint. Agent tools depend on the capabilities of the selected model. Provider usage is billed by your provider.
Do I need to use AI?＋
No. The editor, PDF workflow, reference library, and collaboration are useful on their own. Connect an agent when it helps your work.
How does it work with Overleaf?＋
Export your selected sources, figures, and bibliography as a ZIP and upload it to Overleaf. If your Overleaf plan includes Git access, you can also push and pull through the Git bridge, with a preview before changes are applied. Sync operates on whole files rather than merging simultaneous edits.
Does everything stay on my computer?＋
Your project and library are stored locally. Features you choose to use can send data elsewhere: a cloud AI provider receives the context sent to it, collaborators receive the content you share, and Overleaf receives the files you transfer. Use a local model when you want inference to stay local.
When can I download it?＋
VersoFold 0.1.1 is available for Apple silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 13 or later. Choose your Mac on the download page.
