A preview of the workspace. The workspace preview runs the app’s interface on sample data. You can edit the sample in memory; compiling, model connections, and citation checks run in the desktop app. The PDF shown here is a compiled sample.
Start with a folder.
Open an existing project folder or create a new one from a template. VersoFold keeps your source, figures, and bibliography as ordinary files, so your work stays portable and other local tools can work alongside you.

Write the way you think.
Choose LaTeX, Visual, Split, or PDF. In Split, pick the view in each pane and resize it to fit your work. Source and visual editing work on the same active file.
Use the file tree and document outline to move through a project. Recompile to save pending edits and refresh the PDF. The workspace also tracks changes made by tools outside the editor.
Bring your own intelligence.
Connect a supported AI provider, a locally running model through Ollama, or a compatible endpoint. Use your own provider account or API key; model availability and costs depend on that provider.
The VersoFold harness manages project context, instructions, tools, and the working loop. Configure permissions, extend the toolset with MCP servers and skills, and review what changes. Tool availability depends on the capabilities of the model and connection.
You can also write without an agent. Your editor, bibliography, and PDF remain a complete workflow on their own.
Build a library that stays useful.
Add a paper by DOI, arXiv link, or BibTeX. Use collections and notes to organize the shared reference library across projects. Reconcile duplicates without silently overwriting citation keys.
Insert a citation from the library into your manuscript and workspace bibliography. Verification records distinguish unchecked entries, agent checks, and items needing review. Retain the evidence, inspect the source, and make your own judgment before submission.
Make space for a coauthor.
Choose read, comment, suggest, or edit permissions, with access scoped to the project or selected files. Collaborators use the workspace itself, with source, PDF, and contextual discussion.
A suggestion is a proposal you review before accepting it into the manuscript. Sharing over your local network, a public tunnel, or a hosted setup has different availability requirements. A locally hosted share needs its host to remain available.

Export a new project
Select the source files and assets you want to take, export a ZIP, and upload it as a new Overleaf project. Temporary build files and the compiled PDF are left out. This route works with Overleaf’s free plan.
Sync an existing project
If your Overleaf account includes Git access, connect the project’s Git URL and authentication token. Preview the changes before pushing or pulling.
The sync works on whole files in the direction you choose. It does not merge simultaneous changes automatically. Review the file preview and coordinate with coauthors before replacing a version.
