Create a web edition

Build an illustrated research website from your paper.

← All guidesRead as Markdown ↓

The web edition is a separate publication draft for explaining your research online. Open Publish → Web edition. Its saved content lives in .versofold.web.json and does not rewrite the manuscript.

Choose a presentation

Choose Paper project for a conventional visual project page, Interactive article for a longer explanation, or Demo showcase for a dark visual-results presentation.

Set the title, authors, affiliation, venue note, resource links and accent. Add a teaser image or animated GIF, Markdown abstract and citation. Use descriptive link labels such as Paper, Code or Data and verify their destinations.

An attractive page still needs accurate claims and attribution. Preserve qualifications from the paper and do not invent public links or author details to fill the layout.

Import a starting draft

Import manuscript reads supported local LaTeX includes and ordinary prose. It can choose an available raster rendering of a referenced figure as the teaser. Inspect imported formatting, math, alternative text and section organization.

Figures/tables are not flattened indiscriminately into imported prose. Add visual components deliberately. Import replaces the unsaved website draft, with confirmation when existing content would be replaced; save or export what you want to keep first.

The web narrative can be shorter and more visual than the paper while remaining faithful to its results.

Build useful sections

Available section formats include:

  • Prose with Markdown headings, lists, links and emphasis.

  • A large figure with caption and alternative text.

  • A tabbed example gallery.

  • An aligned before/after image comparison.

  • Local MP4/WebM video.

  • An interactive numeric results explorer.

  • A link to a hosted demo opened in another tab.

A hosted-demo link is not a hosted inference runtime inside VersoFold. Ensure the destination actually exists and explain prerequisites to readers.

For the results explorer, use CSV/TSV with one increasing numeric x column and one to four numeric result columns, with 2–200 observations. It displays supplied observations, series controls and a data table; it does not invent or interpolate scientific results.

Save and preview

Use Save draft to persist edits. Preview site and desktop/mobile previews help inspect the page at different widths. Try gallery tabs, comparison controls, chart series and keyboard navigation. Check that captions and alternative text explain the important visual result.

Animations respect reduced-motion preferences. Use motion when it helps reveal content without making reading dependent on it.

Raw HTML is escaped. Author-supplied scripts are not executed; interactivity comes from supported fixed components. This keeps the publication format constrained and reproducible.

Export a standalone site

Export website produces one HTML file containing the selected supported assets, optional paper PDF and optional data downloads. Rename it index.html when using it as a site home page on your chosen host.

Export is local. No external hosting account is configured and nothing is published automatically. Remote resource links/demos need network access; embedded assets and controls can work offline.

Only selected publication assets and public fields should travel. Check that the downloadable PDF is the intended version and that images/videos may be shared. Current limits include 5 MB per supported image, 25 MB per video/PDF and 60 MB total assets.

Work with the agent

Write with agent saves pending website edits and prepares an editable request. Per-section help narrows the request. Review and send it with your configured model.

The agent can inspect the saved website and manuscript, edit supported sections/settings and prepare a local export. It should preserve author choices and omitted fields, read current revisions and avoid claiming an external publication occurred.

Clean saved agent changes can refresh into the editor. If you have unsaved changes to the same draft, resolve the conflict before saving/exporting. Website assistance does not imply authorization to change manuscript source or publish to a host.
